How Do Yeast Infections Affect Men?

Yeast infections can affect men as well. Although yeast infections are more common in women, men can also be infected. The fungus that causes yeast infections is normally present on skin, especially moist skin. When some contributing factor — such as having sex with a partner who has a vaginal yeast infection — causes an overgrowth of candida, infection can result. Yeast infections  are more common in uncircumcised men.

Signs and symptoms may include:

  • Swelling and Irritation

  • small papules or white patches

  • Itching and Soreness

  • Moist skin on the penis

  • Thick white discharge collected in skin folds

  • Redness

  • Burning sensation on the penis

  • White skin on the penis

  • Trouble pulling back your foreskin

You may be more likely to develop a yeast infection if you:

  • Aren't circumcised

  • Use antibiotics for prolonged periods

  • Have diabetes

  • Have an impaired immune system, such as with HIV

  • Are overweight

  • Practice poor hygiene

When thrush occurs in males, it can affect the head of the penis and the foreskin. It can lead to inflammation of the head of the penis, known as balanitis.

Treatment and Home remedies

Based on your symptoms, your doctor can prescribe you anti-fungal medications, steroid creams and even oral medication. If your infection persists, make sure you check with your doctor. Symptoms of a yeast infection can be similar to an STI, so make sure you don’t go about self diagnosing your symptoms at home.If you keep having yeast infections and aren’t circumcised, your doctor may suggest circumcision, especially if your foreskin is very tight.

Things you can do at home:

You can help clear up your infection by:

  • Avoiding soaps The skin of your intimates is extremely sensitive and is home to a varied number of good bacteria that help in protecting your intimate skin as well keep you safe from infection causing bacteria. Using an intimate wash for men which is made keeping in mind the delicate skin of your privates and the natural pH of the intimate skin will be very beneficial for you.

  • Clean and Dry Make sure that you keep your intimates clean and dry all the time. Accumulation of sweat can cause the bacteria to grow and cause an infection. Even after a shower, make sure you dry your body well.

  • Managing your diabetes if you have it. Diabetes can be a big reason for your yeast infection to persist. All your medical issues are related and one can elevate issues for another.

  • All Products Your intimates are very sensitive. The men’s intimate wash that you use as well as any other products should be4 made for your skin type and also be made of natural ingredients.

  • Cleaning your penis with an intimate wash for men and drying properly every time your shower as well as post sex.

  • Choose unscented soaps and skin products

  • Wearing a condom during sex when your partner has a yeast infection and at all times.

  • Wearing loose cotton underwear to prevent moisture from building up under your foreskin.

The best way to stop a yeast infection from happening is to practice good hygiene.
