At one point we all have been in a long distance relationship and if you haven’t, you could consider yourself lucky. We all know it isn’t easy to be in a long distance relationship, forget a long distance one but the right person makes it easy right?
Here are 5 common long-distance relationship problems and their solutions.
Miscommunication
The biggest problem is miscommunication. Communication must be balanced and you can’t have more or less of it. Sometimes, you will feel like you and your partner are not talking enough or the opposite of that, with your partner hitting your phone up every minute – both are not good indicators of a healthy relationship.
Your partner is your confidante so you should be able to tell him or her the way you really feel. Do not be afraid and do not bottle up your feelings because if he or she really loves you, then he or she will understand. If you are not comfortable with your partner hanging out with a particular person then do not hesitate to relate that to him or her. If your partner is now willing to share his or her problems with you because he or she doesn’t want to bother you, then make your partner feel that you are open to helping.
Because your partner is your companion, you should be able to express your true feelings to him or her. Do not be afraid, and do not suppress your emotions, because if he or she truly loves you, he or she will understand. If you are not comfortable with your partner hanging out with a certain person, do not be afraid to tell him or her. If your partner is now willing to share his or her problems with you because he or she does not want to bother you, make it clear to him or her that you are willing to assist.
Jealousy
Jealousy resides in your heart and you see the world through its eyes. It is perfectly normal to experience the green-eyed monster, also known as jealousy, within you. Jealousy is a fairly common issue in any relationship, long-distance or otherwise.
It is irrational, clingy, and, most importantly, it has the ability to take over your entire body.
Never give in to jealousy. If you have no reason to be jealous, then don't be jealous! Trust your partner enough to avoid making up problems in your head. Do not assign motives to people who lack them. The most important thing to do to keep the green-eyed monster at bay is to not feed it.
Loneliness
Loneliness is a dear old friend who visits every now and then, but in long-distance relationships, loneliness is not always welcome. There will be times when you feel lonely, but this is a very common feeling. Loneliness exists because your partner is not present. Looking on the bright side, you may be lonely because you long for the love you feel when your partner is present.
Loneliness can be alleviated by placing daily reminders of your partner around your home. You can display picture frames from special occasions, the quilt blanket he or she gave you last Christmas, or reread the love letters your partner sent you! Remember that even if your partner is not physically present, you can feel his or her love through the mementos and gifts you share.
Not Enough Time
Time can be an unfair adversary because it is something you cannot fight. People in long-distance relationships can become so preoccupied with their own lives that they forget to spend time with their partners. Others are so preoccupied with their careers that they neglect to make time for their loved ones. Unfortunately, this happens not only to couples, but also to families and friends.
Scheduling time is one of the most effective ways to combat it. This may appear monotonous because it becomes a routine, but it works! Look for the best time for you and your partner to spend time together. If your boyfriend or girlfriend is only a few miles away, make time to visit him or her every other weekend, because there is no such thing as "no time" for the people you care about.
Trust Issues
It's understandable that the distance makes you nervous about your partner. There are times when people are just starting out in their relationships and are thrown into the whirlwind of life, ending up at opposite ends of the spectrum. They did not spend enough time together to get to know each other and build a stronger foundation of trust. Sometimes a person falls in love with someone he or she met online. Mistrust can be caused by a lack of connections and an increase in the number of people between two people.
The only way out of this is to take a leap of faith. Love is a game of chance, and you must roll the dice. There is no sure way to tell if you can trust someone. Do not constantly bug your partner. Allow him or her the necessary personal space because the last thing you want to do is make him or her feel trapped. The only thing you need to tell yourself is that you believe in the love you share with your partner, and that is reason enough to trust him or her.
Love is difficult. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to make it rewarding. It is not always all smiles and dates. For petty reasons, you and your partner will fight and even hate each other at times. However, you should never give up on the people you care about. Even when your partner is the most difficult to love, you choose to love him or her regardless of the circumstances. The most important thing to remember is that this happens in every relationship and that there is always a solution to every problem!
